It Might Not Be What You Think.
Appearances, first impressions, that initial glance. We are attracted to physicality initially. She’s cute, or he has beautiful eyes, or that little girl is adorable! But are we doing ourselves a disservice? Is that really what we should be focused on? Should we be encouraging ourselves to focus on preconceived, pre-formed plastic molds of perfection that somehow we’re meant to “be?” I think not. I think beauty is so much more than a perfect nose and full lips. It’s the smile behind those lips and the character under our skin that makes for a meaningful relationship. So ask yourself next time you see that cute guy, ask yourself what’s under that physical appearance. You may not take a second look.

Organic Love.
This is one of my favorite shots (ever!). So many bits of beauty rolled into one cinematic image captured by the talented team of Mindcastle Studios. From the warmth of sunlight, to each blade of grass, to the angelic glow of hair, to the intimacy of true love’s kiss… Beauty that fills the eyes, the heart, and my soul.

No One Writes Letters Anymore.

Letters_BB10

It’s a shame, really. The only thing that fills my mailbox these days is useless fliers, redundant catalogs and relentless direct mail. In fact, we don’t even think about mailboxes anymore, unless of course we’re referring to our inboxes. Correspondence has become an impersonal flow of computer-generated sentences. I yearn for the lost art of a sincerely hand-written note.

On seldom occasions I find a hand-addressed envelope in that lonely metal box on the curb. It’s my grandmother, wishing happy birthday or anniversary or another special event. Gracing a pre-printed card with her unique handwriting and personable (though slightly illegible) message. These are the letters which sit displayed on our kitchen counter to be enjoyed and adored for weeks. Wish the world did more of that – pick up a pen and note paper to send a moment of meaning by mail truck. You?

Have you ever felt constrained?
Held back? Wedged in to somewhere you don’t want to be? Bound by ties that keep you from breathing deeply, restrict you soul from wandering free? It’s distressing really – what we allow ourselves to forgo for the constraints of pressures around us. We succumb under social pressures and the thought of not being liked or accepted. We acquiesce to work rules and responsibility. But what would it hurt to be free, even for an hour? A day? I mean truly FREE? Unencumbered by who you’re supposed to be, and free to be who you really are. That’s my challenge to you on this fine Wednesday. Free yourself…Go ahead. Take a deep breath, and for the next hour: free yourself.

There is no Beauty without Emotion.
Pain, ecstasy, sorrow, fear, bliss… all beautiful in their own ways, whether dark or light.  Seeing this image makes me remember that beauty is so much more than just the facade. Her beautiful eyes show years of experiences unlike those I will ever know. Her wrinkles are deep badges earned through years of hard living. Her expression takes my breath away, makes my heart ache in empathy. Such a beautiful, but sad woman.
