Who knew…? Oscar the Grouch was originally orange.
When he first appeared on Sesame Street in the original show in 1969 (Lordy, I feel old), Oscar was not green, but orange! No explanation on the color change in Season 2, other than Oscar’s story that he changed colors while visiting his cousins in a swamp. Based on the personality of a “magnificently rude” waiter, Carroll Spinney has been Oscar’s voice since his premier – wow, 44 years voicing our favorite crabby trash-lover.
