My Heart Needs To Feel Paper.
I love my Kindle and my iPad, I do. Endless sources of reading at your digital fingertips, at a moments download – it’s an instant gratification luxury. But there’s something about print that is viscerally lovely. I love the feel of paper between my fingers as each page turns. And photos? Our digital slide show of family pictures always makes me smile, but have you ever noticed you look at a photo much longer if it’s printed? I think that’s because as satisfied as our brains are by electronic imaging, our hearts will always love the permanence of print.

Boring patio, demanding a bit of color. Enter hanging fuchsia baskets (thank you Costco – who knew?!). Two lovely repeatedly blooming “dancing ladies” fuchsias now adorn our patio, making it summertime beautiful. But even better, we are now regularly visited by hummingbirds. They come swooping down, in search of sweet nectar. Smaller than I remember, but just as wondrous. They are a feat of nature, with lightening fast wings and tiny poking beaks. Can’t decide what I enjoy more, the blooms or the birds…

Do you believe in luck?

Some say he was born lucky, things always in his favor. Some say he earned his station in life, worked hard for his good fortune. Luck, destiny, fate… makes me wonder. Makes me wonder if our lives are pre-destined or if we really do have a choice for our path. When standing at crossroads a voice whispering, pressing, luring… What’s next? Feeling lucky?

Handmade_BB15We Need More Analog in this Digital World.
We live in a digital world. Everything is now computerized – for efficiency, speed and the proliferation of technology into all corners of the world. We stare at screens all day and communicate primarily through keyboards. The things we buy are machine-made, programmed and produced in mass quantities. In all this efficiency, we’ve lost the beauty and ease of analog. What we really need is an influx of analog into this digital being. An influx of simplicity and hand-crafted materials made by real people and artists. Less dials and buttons and computerized voices. More warmth, handmade and face-to-face. Let’s get back to human.

If the World Seems Too Big, Get Small.
When things feel overwhelming, too much, more than a mouthful – get small. Take it one small piece at a time. Take the big task / assignment / list of chores and chunk it up. By taking one little part at a time, things are much more …. reasonable — achievable — doable! So stand back, break off a piece, and get small like Alice and her crazy mushrooms.

Enough Pins to Hold it All Together.
Oh the pressures of every day life. Home, work, kids, friends, charity, errands, laundry (endless laundry)… Wait, is there more? Did I miss something? How in the world am I going to keep all this together?
